The law protects the relationship between a client and mental health professional as information cannot be disclosed without written consent.
- Suspected child abuse, or dependent adult or elder abuse. Professionals are required by law to report this to the authorities immediately.
- Client threat of bodily harm to another person/s. Professionals must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
- Client intend to harm self. Professionals will make every effort to enlist client cooperation to ensure safety. If client is non-cooperative, further measures are to be enacted without client consent, provided by law, in order to ensure client safety.
